Louisville, KY September 10, 2008 –Americana Community Center will host an ArtsReach pre-performance workshop with the Grammy nominated group, Sones de México.

Date: September 17, 2008
Time: 6:30-8 PM
Place: Americana Community Center, 4801 Southside Drive

Sones de México is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to the promotion and education of folk and traditional Mexican music and dance. They are comprised of Mexican musicians and educators who are skilled on a variety of instruments. Sones has traveled across the country performing and providing educational workshops for the youth. The group couples education and music and provides hands-on instruction to their audience. Example lessons include “Mexican Songs and Algebra” and “Animals in Mexican Folk Music.”
The workshop with Sones de México was made possible in collaboration with The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts programming department and ArtsReach Programs. ArtsReach partners with local community centers to offer educational arts programming. Families of Americana Community Center and La Casita Center will take part in the workshop on the 17th. The following night, Sones will perform at the Kentucky Center at 8 PM. Through ArtsReach KCard tickets ($3 per ticket) are available for the partnering community centers. The KCard program diversifies and grows audience, while helping make performances accessible to all.
Americana Community Center provides services to the most diverse population of Metro Louisville, composed of more than 40 different cultures and languages including Cuban, Somali, Liberian, Ethiopian, Congolese, Iraqi, Mexican, Sudanese, Bosnian and others. Americana Community Center is an organization established in February 1990.
