Title: Ed and Debbi McCullough
Location: Louisville Seminary, Laws Lodge
Description: Please join Ed and Debbi McCullough at Louisville Seminary Tuesday, October 7 for two programs on the reality of migration near the Arizona. Every day there people desperate for work and a better life for their families attempt to cross the desert. Individuals and families risk, and sometimes lose, their lives in order to pursue the American Dream.
Debbi is a mixed media artist and immigrant advocate in Arizona. During her walks looking for survivors and leaving water in hopes of staving off heat exhaustion for migrants, she collects pieces of clothing, mementos and photographs that are left behind during migration. These artifacts are then used in her art to help her share the stories of those risking their lives to be in the United States. Her work will be on display October 5-October 7 in the Winn Center. On October 7 from 12:30-1:30pm Debbi will present a program on her work in Schlegel Hall 121. This program is a brown bag lunch event, please feel free to bring your lunch and join the program.
At 7pm on Tuesday, October 7 Ed, a geologist, will talk about the reality of the desert region and share maps outlining the most dangerous routes attempted by migrants. The program will include a discussion of the work being done in the Arizona desert to bring “compassion and hospitality” back to the region. This program will take place in Laws Lodge.
Hope to see you there.
